God’s love never fails. God is victorious. That is the message that pastor Jeff presented to us yesterday. Preaching from a very personal perspective, he encouraged us that God’s love for us endures for us no matter what mess we get ourselves in. If we turn to Him, He is right there with open arms to welcome us, clean us up, and declare that we are His children.

And now, my sermon notes:

starting point.

Sometimes we try to pull ourselves out of a hole by our own power. And when we do, we just take a backhoe and dig ourselves in deeper. We bear the scars of those pits.

God is not a mad scientist. He is not guessing, trying one experiment after another. Frankenstein theology-God throws misc stuff together to make us, sometimes making monsters.

God is a master physician. He knows how we are made and can take us no matter how messed up and fix us, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually.

It is by the cross that we are held to God. 1 Cor 1:16–17 [show]1 Corinthians 1:16–17 [16](I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) [17]For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. (ESV)

There were many other good things that pastor Jeff said. To hear the entire sermon, be sure to visit Flatland Church’s website.

I loved the line, “God is not a mad scientist.” It speaks volumes to me with regards to both God’s DNA and our own. Simply put, something Dr. J at Evangel taught us continually, its all about the Imago Dei, the Image of God that is in us.

When God made us, He made us in His image. He embedded His DNA into us and it is by His DNA that we are saved. Sin of course shatters that image in us but through the blood of Christ, that image is restored. The love of God made us in the beginning and remakes us that our DNA matches His.

This is ultimately how God is victorius. He wins because He made us and know best how to restore us to His standards and to the way He intended for us to be. It is great comfort to know that no matter how badly we mess our own lives up, and we are pretty good at it, He is a lot better at fixing it.
